Summer Fun

To Really get into the spirit of our Native American unit we decided to build a tipi.
Although the tribe we'll discover this week, The Maidu tribe of California, didn't use tipis, the Nez Perce of the Northwest that we did last week, and the Sioux that we will discover next week both use tipis. It took me about an hour and half total, that includes collecting my long branch poles and trimming off the tiny branches, to erecting the frame, and draping the "buckskins". The FamilyFun.com website suggested using 10 foot sections of PVC pipe and a 9 x 12 foot canvas tarp...but we improvised and were on a tighter budget and therefore got a less commercial and more rustic looking tipi; P The kids are having an absolute BLAST playing Indians!

Here is me constructing the frame.
